Lil' Bub: Coming to the big screen soon
We have some very serious news for cat lovers on the internet. Since meeting Lil' Bub at the Walker's Internet Cat Video Film Festival, Vice magazine has been working on a feature-length documentary on her meteoric rise to fame. The piece will premiere at the TriBeCa Film Festival in April.

But before the big screening, folks can check out the movie's official trailer, which features Lil' Bub in space, as well as thoughts from her owner on the magic of having an unusual -- and famous -- pet (see if you can spot the shot of the CP cover Lil' Bub was featured in).

Based on the popularity of cats on the internet, it's no surprise that last summer's Internet Cat Video Film Festival was a massive hit, spawning similar events around the country. The debut event attracted over 10,000 attendees, including celebrity kitties and folks from around the world.

For the festival's second installment, the Walker Art Center decided to go even bigger. In order to accommodate the screening's exponentially expanding audience, the museum will be moving the fun to the Minnesota State Fair's Grandstand for one huge, cat-tastic event. Previous shows in the venue have included major arena acts such as KISS, Weezer, and Maroon 5.

Vanir's Cosmic Collision
Imagine entering an exhibition hall filled with napping cats on plush pillows as smiling families hold hands and wave sparkling ribbon wands. This was the scene at this year's Saintly City Cat Club show.

Meet Vanir's Cosmic Collision. He is a Norwegian Forest Cat who weighs about 15 pounds, but looks more like 30 with all the fur. He was a regional winner as a kitten, and achieved the title of "Grand Premiere" at his last two shows. At home in Des Moines, IA, his owner, Mary Tesdall, simply calls him Cosmo.

Tesdall is the entry clerk for the 37th Annual Saintly City Cat Club Championship and Household and Pet Cat Show that was held at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium this weekend as part of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. The show is one of the biggest in the state, and over 150 cats competed this year. As the entries came rolling in, Tesdall fielded tough questions from all applicants, from first-time enthusiastic exhibitors to seasoned professional breeders.

This weekend, the pageant world will be watching with (catnip-scented) baited breath as the biggest event of 2013 takes over St. Paul: 2013 Saintly City Cat Club Annual Championship Cat Show.

Going down this Saturday and Sunday, the fanciest and most intense kitty competition of the year will invade the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, as kitty-bros and lady-kitty-bros will square off in an attempt to earn the titles of Household Pet King and Queen. And while that might sound like a wholesome, adorable event for the entire family, the bottom line is that this weekend is all about winning. After all, why have a cat if they can't be the best (just like kids, amirite)?

Now, you might be thinking yourself, "But my cat is too well-adjusted for the pageant world! How can I change that?" Don't sweat it; we've got you covered.

This past week, we watched a bunch of episodes of the smash hit TV show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and took careful notes on what it takes to be a good stage mom. All you need to do is follow these simple tips, and your cat could be the next Kitty Boo Boo. Let's get pageant-y!

Cat Vid Fest 2012.jpg

Last summer, over 10,000 people camped out on the Walker Art Center's hilly lawn for the Cat Video Fest (#catvidfest), an outdoor screening of the best cat videos the internet had to offer. When it came to curating the show, the museum staff were overwhelmed with the sheer quantity of submissions, and staffers were delighted (and shocked) when folks -- plus a few celebrity cats -- flew in from around the world to attend the event.

At this year's SXSW, folks from the Walker will be in town to talk about what the hell happened, and what this means for modern art.

They will also be screening cat videos, of course.

The first-ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival was obviously a raging success with 10,000-plus people, folks dressed as cats, actual cats lounging in the grass, and the sweet melodic sound of public LOLing.

And the videos! There was Boots and Cats, two different versions of Nyan Cat, a DJ cat like Keyboard Cat and, oh, Henri!

As with any film festival, one of the guilty pleasures is celebrity gawking. If you didn't spot the famous Lil Bub in her diminutive, bright-eyed glory, you sadly missed out.

Here she is, amid the fans and cameras:

Sprout the cat gets wedged in a car engine [PHOTOS]

Categories: Cats
sprout with tuna thumb.jpg
Now we know what a cat stuck in a car engine looks like.
Sprout the cat was a little on edge. His owners left town and put him in the care of a cat sitter down the block, and that just wasn't sitting right. So come nightfall he stayed outside, roaming the yards of his Chaska neighborhood.

At some point, Sprout must have gotten very cold. Looking for shelter, he found what appeared to be a hospitable place to bed down for the night -- the still-warm engine of a silver sedan.

This, as it turns out, was a terrible decision.More »
