Last night, folks descended on Walker Art Center's big hill to honor the best of cats on the internet, something we normally enjoy privately at home. This was the third installment of the Internet Cat Video Fest, and it was as well attended and festive as ever. There were people dressed as cats, people with balloon creations on their heads, people with real cats on their shoulders, and even a few friendly dogs.

Voting for the Walker's Internet Cat Vid Fest's Golden Kitty award is now open

It's a tough task, but someone has to do it. Since last summer, the folks at the Walker Art Center have been watching cat videos online, whittling an epic list of submissions down to a manageable selection of nominees for 2014's Internet Cat Video Fest's coveted Golden Kitty award. The competition should be tough this year, as the felines from past winning vids -- Henri 2: Paw de Deux and The Original Grumpy Cat -- have gone on to animal infamy. This year's nominees are adorable, and should serve you well as a lovely way to kill a few moments at work. Clips include a Star Wars parody, a kitty that can't stop playing with its favorite toy, and a cat that simply does not care that its human is trying to record a yoga session.

You can watch the top videos after the jump, then follow the link at the bottom to place your vote on this weighty matter. The winner will be announced August 14 at the big free festival on the Walker's hill.

Now in its third year, the Walker Art Center's Internet Cat Video Festival is a local event that draws in celebrity cats from around the country, journalists from around the world, and cat fans from all over. The first year was a blowout happening on the museum's hilly lawn, while last year invited crowds to watch cat flicks in sweltering heat at the Grandstand at the Minnesota State Fair.

For the 2014 festival, the gathering will be going back to its roots and returning to the Walker's lawn.

Merry Catmas: Lil Bub sits in front of fireplace, yule log returns to TV

YuleLogFireLilBub2013.jpg
Forget Christmas specials and movies. The yearly airing of the yule-log fire is a special tradition for folks without fireplaces (or too lazy to use it), pyromaniacs, and those who need something pleasant in the background while making cookies. It will triumphantly return again tonight to bring you some holiday cheer (or something to stare at during awkward family moments).

Meanwhile, for those who prefer a purring cat in front of their fire-themed videos, Lil Bub's owner has uploaded an hour-long YouTube clip featuring the little kitty in front of a roaring fireplace. As usual, he seems pretty happy about it.

Glorious cat butter sculpture created for Internet Cat Video Fest

A trip to the Minnesota State Fair isn't complete until you've marveled at the butter sculptures depicting Princess Kay of the Milky Way and her crew. This year, there will be even more butter art. The Walker Art Center's Internet Cat Festival will be hitting the Grandstand next Wednesday for an evening of YouTube clips, celebrity cats, and glamour. Also, there will be a cat rendered in butter.

In preparation of the big event, a sculpture artist has created a beautiful piece of art. Animal Planet captured the creative process, and recently posted the sped-up video. Take a look after the jump.

What the internet was made for: Watch a video where a kitten meets a hedgehog
This August, the Walker Art Center's super-popular Internet Cat Video Film Festival will return for an even bigger get-together at the Minnesota State Fair. But before that, folks at the museum are carefully curating and (presumably) heatedly discussing which video submissions will screen at the event, and who will take home top honors in the cat video hall of fame.

Audiences have a say in the big winners, too, as there's a People's Choice category open to voting.

Lil' Bub: Coming to the big screen soon
We have some very serious news for cat lovers on the internet. Since meeting Lil' Bub at the Walker's Internet Cat Video Film Festival, Vice magazine has been working on a feature-length documentary on her meteoric rise to fame. The piece will premiere at the TriBeCa Film Festival in April.

But before the big screening, folks can check out the movie's official trailer, which features Lil' Bub in space, as well as thoughts from her owner on the magic of having an unusual -- and famous -- pet (see if you can spot the shot of the CP cover Lil' Bub was featured in).
