Found vs. Found throwdown: Found Footage Festival's Nick Prueher

Categories: Culture Wars

Sometimes, it seems as though there's an infinite amount of absurd, disturbing, and hysterical viral vids being uploaded to YouTube. But in the grand scheme of things, these movies are merely a blip on the timeline of bizarre stuff caught on film. After all, VHS tapes and camcorders have captured decade's-worth of filmed craziness, though much of it has sadly (or perhaps fortunately?) been lost to time and ever-evolving technology.

Enter Nick Prueher, who alongside his childhood friend Joe Pickett, founded and hosts the Found Footage Festival, an online archive of rescued VHS oddities and the accompanying traveling caught-on-film freak show. They'll be making a stop tonight at the Heights Theater as a part of the Found vs. Found tour.

Michele Bachmann Book Cover: If You Judged this Book By Its Cover, You Would Think Michele Bachmann Wanted to Be Barack Obama

Michele Bachmann book cover
Michele Bachmann's book cover has been unveiled, and as book covers go, Michele Bachmann's book cover is underwhelming and boring.

It's just a plain picture of Michele Bachmann against a beige background! This is the exact opposite of the Newsweek Crazy Eyes Cover that we knew and loved.

This looks like some kind of college text book. And what's with the italicized "of." That's where you decided to get jiggy with it?

She could not have picked a more boring and conservative pose. And her head looks kind of superimposed on her body.

Worst of all, she totally copied the design from Barack Obama's book!

Michael Arrington Vs. David Carr: Aol rebel declares Twitter war on NYTimes media critic

Michael Arrington vs. David Carr Twitter Fight
Michael Arrington is really pissed at David Carr, and he's venting his spleen on Twitter.

Tech magnate Arrington is beefing with the New York Times media critic because Carr deigned to write a critical column about Arrington's decision to abdicate his journalistic role to pursue a career as an investor in the very companies he used to cover--a conflict of interests anathema to old school journos like Carr.

It got to the point that Arrington threatened to go nuclear on the Gray Lady:

The saddest part about the NYT drama is that I hold the nuclear card. They know it, and they know I won't use it. Unless I do.less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

"Wigger Wednesday": Black student sues school district alleging racism

Wigger Wednesday invites students to dress up like gangsta rappers.
A local high school is being sued by a black student over a longstanding student tradition known as "Wigger Wednesday."

Quera Pruitt, a former Red Wing High School student, says seeing her white classmates don do-rags and saggy jeans while throwing gang signs on "Wigger Wednesday" is a form of racial discrimination.

"To her, and frankly to me, 'Wigger Day' is the same thing as 'Nigger Day,'" says her attorney, Joshua Williams.

House Majority Leader Matt Dean does not like Neil Gaiman

How much is lecture by a celebrity worth? When such fees become public, the reaction is often outrage. Last year author Neil Gaiman was criticized by the Star Tribune for receiving $45,000 for a four-hour talk at the Stillwater Junior High School.

The attention given to the local controversy has not gone unnoticed by House Republicans, who cited the hubbub as an example of excess in public spending. They are currently pushing a bill that would require organizations like Minnesota Public Radio to compete for grants, rather than receive a yearly allotment. More >>

Target Corp. has found itself in hot water over its $150,000 donation to MN Forward, which supports anti-gay gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer. The company's head honcho, Gregg Steinhafel, has a long history of supporting conservative causes, including Crazy Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Yet Steinhafel was more than happy to line his pockets marketing products to the GLBT community. Here's 8 items currently on-sale at Target that will likely gather dust on the shelves during the boycott.

Pastor Tom Brock reaped a whirlwind of self-loathing
Pastor Tom Brock became a viral sensation this week after he was outed by the local gay magazine, Lavender.

Brock famously blamed the tornado that struck downtown Minneapolis on a church's embrace of gay clergy. Turns out he was caught up in a whirlwind of self-loathing.

Brock has taken a leave of absence, but the hypocrite hasn't ruled out continuing to serve in the job he thinks gays shouldn't have.

Look out for more tornadoes!

The most surprising part about the story is just how common it is: We've become accustomed to homophobes being closeted homosexuals.

At this point, if someone loudly advocates against gay marriage, it's a good bet they're just trying to preserve all the young, single guys.

Here's our list of the Top 5 homophobes who turned out to be closet cases.

Who you lookin' at?
Redheads make up between one and two percent of the world population. Despite their minority status, most copper-tops have been walking around under the blissful misapprehension that they are accepted and well-integrated into society.

But increasingly as of late, redheads have been the victims of a rising tide of mockery, bigotry, and violence.

Here's a brief timeline of the weird and escalating Ginger Wars.
