We know how these ladies are voting

Last night and last weekend saw some raucous Halloween parties. There was First Avenue's Too Much Blood and Halloween blitz, Club Jager hosted a posh '20s affair, and Honey got people up and dancing. And while most people rocked a costume, some put a little more creativity and effort into their looks. We've culled some of the best getups we spotted around town. Come take a look.

Actors Victoria Justice and Thomas Mann spent time in Minnesota last weekend promoting their new teen comedy, Fun Size. Just in time for Halloween, Fun Size tells the story of high-school senior Wren (Victoria Justice) who is forced to watch her younger brother Albert (Jackson Nicoll) on Halloween so that her mother (Chelsea Handler) can go party with her boyfriend. A wild evening ensues after Wren loses track of her brother and calls on her friends April (Jane Levy), Peng (Osric Chau), and Roosevelt (Thomas Mann) to help find him.

There are two types of people in this world: People who wait the whole year for Halloween, and those who don't. Accordingly, we've divided this year's Halloween costume how-to into two parts: Ideas for people who don't get into the holiday, and inspiration for people who can't get enough of the spooky spirit.

Whether you don't have time to find a costume, dislike dressing up, or just can't come up with good ideas, we've got a starting point for the Halloween-challenged individuals out there. From easy-to-assemble costumes to cheap disguises, here are nine different ways to dress up for Halloween without very much effort.

Creative twists on played-out costumes

Categories: Halloween
The countdown is on.

In just two short weeks, bros and lady-bros will be dressing up in their sluttiest, most tasteless, and flat-out ridiculous outfits in honor of the greatest holiday ever created: Halloween.

And while anyone can stop by a thrift store and throw together a costume, creativity counts when it comes to the choosing the right look. That's why this week we're giving you a few ways to put a unique twist on the same played-out costumes that you'll see worn over and over this October.

One night out of the year, zombies take over the Twin Cities. Thousands come out en masse to show off their costumes and take a bite out of hang out with their friends. Drunk on Brain Belt beer and undead adrenaline, they stumble out into the streets moaning and groaning about the long lines outside the West Bank bars or the Midway Stadium bathrooms.

We scoured the bloody hordes for the most memorable zombie costumes of 2012. What makes these zombies stand out from the rest of the undead crowd isn't about beauty, it's about braiiiins.

Some folks go overboard on their cookie baking at Christmastime. Others throw awesome Fourth of July celebrations. And then there are the individuals who love to go all out with their Halloween costumes. While many go the homemade route, those with bigger budgets might be considering purchasing something really elaborate. We took a moment to surf the web in search of the newest, priciest get ups on the market this season, from LED masks to body armor to mustaches.

The Soap Factory's Haunted Basement brings new spooks to the 2012 season

A previous year in the basement.
The Soap Factory's annual Haunted Basement, now in its sixth year, has acquired a reputation for serious scares. When the 12,000-square-foot, 125-year-old basement opened for its seasonal run on Friday night, just 24 of 10,000 tickets for the month were left unsold. By 11 p.m., enough brave souls had gone through the basement that those waiting in line for their turn got to hear stories of the factory's first victories: A handful of people had resorted to the safe word, "Uncle," and opted out of the rest of the tour. Already, one poor visitor had, yes, peed.

But don't worry: Chances are, you won't be the fraidy cat who ends up in a corner with wet pants. Because the Haunted Basement doesn't go in for the kind of easy spooks that might catch you (or your bladder) off guard. Instead, it engages in something more unsettling -- and interesting.

Vampires, ghosts, mummies, zombies, and more will be taking over the Science Museum as it continues its adults-only Social Science program with a Halloween-themed evening. This Thursday, Social Science: Dead and Undead will explore "the creepier side of science," says program developer Julia Halpern. At the event, guests can learn about the science behind dead and undead mythologies, and there will be opportunities for socializing, dancing, and drinking.
