If you've been waiting for the perfect occasion to pull that never-been-worn, over-the-top (in a good way) dress out of your closet, wait no longer: Glamorama is the occasion to do so. The fashion-forward variety show benefits the Children's Cancer Research Fund, and has raised over $41 million in the last 30 years. The event only takes place in four cities, and Minneapolis is one of the lucky stops.

This year's theme is British Invasion, which pays homage to some of the most influential Brit pop artists of the past 50 years. The event is being held at the historical Orpheum Theatre, and musical headliners include American pop duo Karmin and R&B artist Robin Thicke. (Yes, Alan Thicke from Growing Pains has a platinum album-selling musician for a son.)

For Americans, the celebration of our independence happens in early July. However, if you haven't run through all of your fireworks and are still looking for an excuse to celebrate liberty from an oppressive monarchy, there's still Bastille Day. This thoroughly French affair is marked every year in the Twin Cities by an all-day block party thrown by the great bistro Barbette.

For this installment of What to Where, we're heading down Lake Street to join in on this weekend's party while dressed in deliciously eclectic fashion from Buffalo Exchange.

It's summer in the Twin Cities, and there's nothing we would like better than to tool around the parkways in a Vespa on a devil-may-care holiday away from the office. If your vacation days are used up, however, the next best thing would be a night out at the Guthrie for the delightful and ambitious production of Roman Holiday.
 
The Guthrie's new stage adaptation of William Wyler's 1953 motion picture has received a ton of press -- and rightfully so. Merging the iconic movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck with the giddy pop of Cole Porter's timeless music has proved to be a winning combination with audiences. The cast's exhilarating performance deftly matches the charisma of their silver-screen counterparts. Add to that the Guthrie's trademark production magic, and you have a perfect summer evening of adventure, romance, and comedy.

However, this is a night out at the theater, so fashion should follow the fun. Even though
the production features light and less-serious fare, prepping the perfect ensemble of clothing for the theater can still be intimidating. Although an attendee's outfit should not overshadow the performance, it provides an opportune time to explore your artistic side by experimenting with your wardrobe.

With bands like Doomtree and Trampled by Turtles on the lineup, it's no surprise that this year's Rock the Garden sold out in an hour. The daylong concert fest, put on by the Walker Art Center and 89.3 the Current, has made a name for itself as a great place to catch up with friends in the sunshine (or rain) while jamming out to some live tunes.

Although Rock the Garden isn't quite Coachella, that doesn't mean you can't get inspired by all the creative energy and dress the part. Fashion enthusiasts love a great music festival as it's the perfect event for pushing your style comfort zone. More »

For our second edition of What to Where we're crossing the river into St. Paul for Grand Old Day. While this is great place to rock a new style, it's not easy making waves in a sea of 300,000 people. So, we headed  to Primp for inspiration.

Located on the corner of Selby and Dale, this boutique is a fashionista's dream come true. With all the color blocking, neon, chiffon, and more we couldn't help but do a little shopping for ourselves. Thankfully, at Primp you can stock up on some high-end goods without Rick rolling your bank account. Also, the light and airy fabrics are perfect for the hot and humid Minnesota summers. Our favorite thing about Primp? They're dog friendly! Be sure to ask one of the talented associates for a puppy treat.
