Drink like a pig this weekend

As fall approaches many pubs and restaurants are gearing up for Oktoberfest to begin. This Friday, the Muddy Pig kicks things off right with a Belgian Beer Festival.

Located in St. Paul, the Muddy Pig (162 N. Dale St.) is definitely a neighborhood bar, but it is also a worthy destination for those out in the ‘burbs and over in Minneapolis. Not only do they typically have about 50 beers on tap, but they also have an impressive list of whiskey, Scotch, and bourbon.

Friday through Sunday the list will get a little longer as 40 different Belgian drafts will be available, and a mind–blowing 80+ beers will be available. Overwhelmed? Interested in learning as well as tasting? Plunk down $20 (or $50 for all seminars) and sign up for one of the seminars. A survey of Belgian beer styles is Friday a 5 p.m., true lambics is Saturday at noon, and Belgian beer culture is Sunday at noon.

The festival itself is free, but if you’re interested in attending a lecture be sure to sign up early. For more info call the Pig at 651.254.1030 or visit www.muddypig.com.
