Free Beer Friday: Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner
Personally, I am a big fan of hoppy beer. Though I do love Guinness, one of the least hoppy beers on the market, the mega–hoppy Bell’s Two–Hearted and Surly Furious are two of my favorite brews.
Enter Samuel Adams’ Hallertau Imperial Pilsner, whose label underlines the word "intense" in red, which presumably means it’s very serious. According to the press release, this beer "uses enormous, almost reckless, quantities of the Hallertau Mittelfrueh hop, a rare Bavarian Noble hop variety prized for its distinct taste and aroma." Sam Adams founder and brewer Jim Koch dramatically states that this brew "unabashedly pushes the boundaries of flavor."
Will this be the hoppiest beer I’ve ever tasted? Most beers use an ounce and a half of hops per barrel while this beer has 12 pounds per barrel. Time to get hopped up.
Jessica Armbruster: It’s a pretty color.
Ben Palosaari: Wow. That is horrible. This is the bitterest beer ever.
JA: Wow. This is totally the hoppiest beer. Ever.
BP: I feel like I am drinking coffee. It’s almost jolting.
Matt Snyders: This will definitely stop you from binge–drinking
Nate Patrin: It’s stopping me from drinking, period.
Bradley Campbell: I feels like it’s taking the enamel off my teeth.
JA: It kind of has this weird butter aftertaste.
NP: If you prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate, you’ll probably hate this.
BP: I don’t understand.
Andrea Myers: I don’t like this. At all.
(Bradley wanders over and picks up the Lesbian Sex book on the bookshelf)
JA: Everyone is drawn to the lesbian sex book!
BC: I’m going to Tegan and Sara. I have to prepare.
MS: No, Tegan and Sara are twins. Wait, are they lesbians too?
BP: This is not getting better the more I drink.
