Dome Dog's future uncertain: Twins hire new concessions company

The Star Tribune reported last week that the new Twins stadium will bring new concessions with it.

The story takes up an important angle -- highlighting concern over whether Sportservice, the new vendor, will maintain current slash soon-to-be-former concessionaire Centerplate's commitment to donating a portion of its proceeds to charity.

Centerplate's current arrangements allow volunteers from Twin Cities-area charities to sell food at the games and take home a cut of the proceeds.

Reading it though, all I could think was: What about Dome Dogs?!

Not that there's anything special about them. There isn't. But having a Dome Dog at a Twins game is like drinking hot chocolate after ice skating, downing cheese curds at the State Fair or making chili just like everyone else does the second the weather turns chilly.

Sportservice is mum on the fate of the dog. "We're not quite to the point where we have selected specific items," a spokesman says. A vendor fair in the spring will help the company start ironing out the details.

Hopefully the Twins will go more the route of the St. Paul Saints: fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and Summit beer for starters. When does spring training start?
