I just got the news from Chuck Paton, General Manager of Hotel Ivy, that Steven Brown's replacement has been named. Drumroll please...
They've picked Joan Ida, formerly of the LakeHouse, and she'll start the Monday after Valentine's day. Ida has been around the Twin Cities dining scene for years, with stints at places like the Loring Cafe and Goodfellows--Paton says he's been impressed with Ida since he met her when he was working at the St. Paul Grill and she was at Tria, which are both Morrissey companies. Incidentally, Ida's husband, Scott, just started as Porter & Frye's manager--he's been at Red Stag, Nick and Eddie, and St. Paul Grill, among others.
I liked a lot of whad Ida was doing at the LakeHouse, though the drive to Forest Lake means I didn't enjoy it as often as I could have. I'm sure Ida's Minneapolis-based fans will be happy to see her back in the city. Right now, Paton says, much of the talent Brown recruited--including Erik Andersen and Doug Flicker--have chosen to stay. He says Ida's not planning any wholesale change, just a continuation of the exciting pace Brown set, perhaps supplementing some of the more avant garde dishes with those that will appeal to a broader audience. We'll keep you posted...
**Also, if you want to stay overnight in the adjacent Hotel Ivy, Mobil Travel Guide just announced that it recieved a Four-Star ranking--the only hotel in Minnesota to receive the award, and the first ever in Minneapolis.
