Recently People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) awarded the French Meadow Cafe and Bakery with a 2008 Proggy for Best New Airport Concession. The local bakery and restaurant has three airport locations, two in the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and one at JFK International. The two Minnesotan concessions were the first natural/organic restaurants to be located in any U.S. airport. Those looking to eat organic without paying for a plane ticket can check out the Uptown restaurant located at 2610 Lyndale Ave in Minneapolis. The bakery was founded in 1985. It is the oldest certified organic bakery in the United States.

The menu consists of a rotating variety entrees, soups, salads, desserts, and sandwiches. Many are vegan or vegetarian-friendly, with local ingredients, free-range chicken, and specialty bread available daily. Another good deal? Get a half-priced bottle of wine Mondays and Saturdays when you spend $20 on food.
