RIP Matty B's

Matt Birk--St. Paul native, Harvard grad, Viking's center and six-time pro bowler is losing one of his titles: restaurateur.

The Pi Press reports that the St. Paul location of Matty B's has closed and the Minneapolis one may be, too. I can't say the food at Matty's was any great shakes, but many people enjoyed the sports bar ambiance of the Washington Ave. location and the live music and dancing at the Wabasha one. In any case, Matty B.'s certainly performed better in the arena of sportsman-come-restaurant owner than Carl Eller's ill-conceived, ill-named, and ill-fated Purple People Eatery.

At least Birk's other title--all around good guy--shouldn't be going anywhere.
