Valentine's Day: t-minus three weeks
There's still time to make Valentine's Day dinner reservations if that's your bag. If you feel like getting out of town for a night, perhaps grabbing a bit more anonymity than you might doing, say, dinner at Chino Latino and a night at Fantasuites, here are a few ideas:
1) The Afton House Inn in Afton has Valentine's Day dinner specials from Feb. 12 - 15, the best of which looks to be the four-course dinner (with a scallop, chicken or beef Wellington entree) paired with six wines for $54.95 pp on Thursday, Feb. 12. Go out early for some skiing or a good hike.
2) For 80 bucks plus the cost of a room, you'll get a raft of Valentine's treats -- including champagne and a fruit and cheese plate delivered to your room as well as dinner at the hotel restaurant -- at the Anderson House Bed and Breakfast in Wabasha. This is aside from the added treat (well, to some) of getting to have one of the hotel's resident cats cozy up with you in your room. Jaunt across the river for some (real) cheese curds at Nelson's.
3) Stillwater's Water Street Inn is featuring a $75 pp (added to the room price) for a night in their riverside digs which includes a five-course dinner (New York strip, chile-rubbed shrimp or apple-stuffed chicken breasts for the main course) and champagne brunch the next morning. If you're really hard core, you could bike the Gateway Trail there.
Suggestions for the increasingly desperate to follow in upcoming weeks.
