Man vs. Food visits 5-8 Club, Gasthof

It turned out that rumors the trip had been canceled were greatly exaggerated, as we discovered when we stopped by the 5-8 Club on Friday to repay a Superbowl bet with a Juicy Lucy.

The line was out the door, and we soon saw why: We'd blundered onto a TV shoot. Starstruck diners watched host Adam Richman ask whether the 5-8 or Matt's was the sandwich's true originator, joke about a threeway with a "Juicy Lucy and a Sloppy Sally" and caution a couple out on a date to beware not to get scalded on the first bite (though this last scene may not air, because it looked like the lady balked at the release form).

Although Adam Richman was born in Brooklyn, he's spent time in the Twin Cities and was familiar with our local haunts. On Saturday, he visited Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit where he was scheduled to devour a giant brat. When we asked him Friday if he was intimidated, he shrugged and said it would "look the same going out as it did coming in."
