RIP: Dinkytowner

This weekend's your last chance to get some grub at the Dinkytowner, including one of their "legendary greasy breakfasts." The popular hiphop venue and cafe's last day of business is Sunday.
City Pages broke the story a couple weeks ago. Co-owner Kyle McCarty told CP the closure comes as a result of "a perfect storm" of problems. The city of Minneapolis has been pressuring the cafe to overhaul its kitchen. In addition, their lease is up and the McCarty and fellow co-owner Brian Elias weren't happy with new terms. A default on a loan didn't help either.
Less known for its fare as for playing home to up-and-coming artists, the closure is a blow to the local hiphop scene. "I was looking at the set list for this year's Soundset , and I counted 18 that had at one time or another played at the Dinkytowner," McCarty tells the Minnesota Daily this week.
