RIP: The Boathouse

Bummer news...The Boathouse restaurant in Superior, WI, has closed due to the economic downturn, according to its website. The place was among my favorite destination restaurants--located right on the lake, on picturesque Barker's Island, with a great view of the Duluth hillside. Chef/ower Kirk Bratrud (former owner of the Bayport Cookery) cooked all sorts of fresh, seasonal fare while highlighting local ingredients. I've had some great meals at the Boathouse over the years (the elk carpaccio and Lake Superior whitefish being particularly memorable), and its presence will be sorely missed the next time I'm headed up the North Shore.
