Summer's such a freaky manic time in Minn. so a little hand-holding can be a good thing, especially when it comes to braving the summer wedding bottleneck. A nice bottle of bubbly can make a great complement to a wedding gift or even stand on its own, perhaps for a shower or bachelor or bachelorette party. Bill Nosen, floor supervisor at France 44 in Edina has a number of suggestions of romantic bottles available at the store, spanning a wide price range. Thanks, Bill!

High-end

Nosen recommends two rosé champagnes, both non-vintage:

Billecart Salmon Brut Rosé - $100

Laurent Perrier Brut Rosé - $95.99

"These are just so pretty. Even in the glass, looking at the wines, they're just this gorgeous ruby. The great champagne rosés, to me, they scream 'romantic night,'" Nosen says. "They're both full, rich, heavy in your mouth for champagne. They almost disappear in your mouth without even swallowing."

Mid-range

Mumm Cordon Rouge - $45.99

"This has got that full mouth richness to it, and it's just one of the classics. It has that citrusy, peachy kind of aroma too it, no sweetness."

Roederer Estate Brut - 23.00

Made by the same folks that make Cristal champagne. "For California sparkling wine, it gives you a lot of the same characteristics that a non-vintage out of Champagne gives you but at a fraction of the price. It's certainly quite a lot of wine for the price and it always scores well with the critics." The same goes for most French-owned, California-grown champagnes, Nosen says. "They shares a lot of the similarities as those in France in terms of style, how its made."

Bisol Crede Prosecco Brut - $24.99

"Proseccos are much more laid-back and easy-going sparkling wines," Nosen says. "They feel softer in the mouth."

Budget

Cristalino Cava Brut - $9.99

"It's kind of ago-to, if I want cheap sparkling wine," says Nosen. "It always gets "Best Buy" awards. It doesn't necessarily have the depth that the others have ... it has a citrusy, really almost green apple style."

Riondo Prosecco Rosé - $15.99

"This has just a little whisper of sweetness to it. There's a little strawberry and cherry to it. If there was a crowd-pleasing rosé prosecco, this is it."

Nosen says to keep champagne and other sparkling wines in mind not just for weddings, New Year's and other celebrations. "The rest of the world kind of uses them like a normal wine," he says. Huh? Weeknight champagne? We're in!
