In response to the proposed Lyndale Avenue Trader Joe's (in case you've been living in a bubble, Adam Platt's well-reasoned treatise can get you up to speed), the Wedge co-op and Hum's liquor store staff have been getting to know one another better. While the Hum's and Wedge clientele aren't a direct overlap, Hum's does several local beers and wines as well as Certified Organic and Fair Trade varieties that allign with the Wedge's mission. So the two parties started talking about ways local businesses could support each other, and came up with an idea that involves Wedge shoppers flashing gang signs at the Hum's cashiers. Seriously.

So, here is how to get the Wedge.coop Three Finger Discount when you pick up the featured beer or wine: make a "W" with your right hand - you know, just fold your pinkie down with your thumb, and wave "W" at the cashier.
