Food writers and friends Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs have joined forces to put together a cooking website and blog honoring the home cook. food52 has been in the beta testing stage for a while now but officially "came out" this week. Part food porn and part Iron Chef, the site hosts weekly recipe contests, allowing readers to view and vote on their favorites, which Hesser and Stubbs vet. Winning recipes will be rolled into a cookbook next year.

Here's the deal:

[T]he best recipes come from home cooks. If you think about it, home cooks are practical and inventive and these qualities lead to great recipes. At food52, we recognize talented home cooks by giving them a place to show off their work, a place where cooks of all kinds come to be inspired and engaged in lively conversation. To begin, we're creating the first online community cookbook and curated recipe database. As food52's editors, we help vet the recipes, we write about food and cooking every day, and we'll soon offer a selection of the best artisanal foods and kitchen products in the country.

Right now, they're seeking recipes for "brunch eggs" and greens and votes for fried chicken and eggplant finalists. You can also see past winners on the site. We're liking!
