Coming Soon: Cake Eater Bakery
A new "boutique" bakery is opening up this spring in the former Cliquot Club space in South Minneapolis's Seward neighborhood. Cake Eater Bakery is the brainchild of local bakers and friends Sheela Nammakal and Emily Harris. The bakery will specialize in cupcakes (Nammakal is behind Miel y Leche Catering) but also serve up Intelligentsia coffee and other baked goods.
Nammakal says she believes Cake Eater will be the Twin Cities' only carrier of the Chicago-based Intelligentia. "We go to Chicago pretty often and just love their coffee. No one carries it here, and we think the Twin Cities are totally ready for what they have." As for the baked goods, Nammakal, the self-decribed "Queen of Pastry" (to Harris's "Queen of Coffee") says Cake Eater will feature "couture" baked goods with unique flavor profiles that will that will be different from anyone else in the Cities.
The bakery will also cater to kids. Nammakal says the bakery will have "Kid's Happy Hour" with fresh-baked cookies, milk, and hot chocolate afternoons after school gets out. Nice!
The bakery is slated to open "late 2009, early 2010." March 1 the ladies suggest to local blog CMTY. Whenever it opens, we look forward to checking it out! Stay tuned.
