Common Roots closes briefly after accident in front of restaurant

Categories: News

See that fire hydrant? It got taken out by a Kemps truck today.
Common Roots had to temporarily close today after a semi swerved off the road and took out the fire hydrant in front of the restaurant. Owner Danny Schwartzman said the truck missed the restaurant, which was filled with customers, by only about eight inches. No one involved was hurt.

The building's City crews are still cleaning up outside the building as of early this afternoon, Schwartzman says, and some water has leaked into the restaurant building's basement, but no infrastructure was damaged in the incident. A substance that appeared to be oil at first on the premises was later discovered to be just dirty water.

Schwartzman said the restaurant could be back open by dinner tonight, tomorrow at the latest. It's the first time ever the restaurant has had to close during business hours.
