Minnesota, represent! Two weeks from this Sunday, Saffron Chef Sameh Wadi will take on Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto on "Iron Chef America." At 25, Wadi's will be the youngest chef to have appeared on the Food Network show as well as the first from Minnesota.

Though the show was shot months ago, Wadi, his friends and family, and fellow cooks Kevin Manley and Nick O'Leary [the show allows chefs to bring two assistants] have kept a tight lid on the outcome.

Wadi tells the Star Tribune he was out buying garbanzo beans when he got word of his invitation to be on the show and thought it was a joke. Only after Googling the producer's name did he figure out it was the real deal. He recounts telling his mother the news:

After freaking out for a little while, we called our mother. She's like, "Why are you not on 'Top Chef,' isn't that the top?" When she got that "Iron Chef" was the top show, she was just ecstatic.

Of the experience he says:

You have to represent yourself first of all. Then the restaurant. And I wanted to show that we have a really great culinary scene here in Minneapolis and we can hang with the big boys.

TUNE IN! Sunday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m.. If you miss it, the episode will also be airing the following Monday, Jan. 25 at 11 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
