The PC from Caffrey's Deli
For a moment, in my younger and less mature days, I thought Caffrey's was just a great place to walk/crawl from the Country Bar when over served, or a stellar spot for people watching due to its adjacency to the Smitten Kitten. However, after several trips in the daylight I soon discovered that Caffrey's is likely the best option for grabbing a quick sub around the Uptown area.

I don't want to snub any of the other sub joints in town, but Caffrey's seems to be bigger and fresher, and in my mind, that makes a big difference. One of my favorites is the PC ($6.25). This is an interesting mix of fresh sliced turkey, zesty capicola, creamy provolone and a spicy cherry pepper relish. The cold cuts taste really fresh and crunchy romaine offers a nice addition of texture that I find lacking at most other grab-n-go sandwich shops. The smooth provolone helps to check the spice of the pepper relish, but you still get enough of the heat to induce a hiccup or two. My only issue on the latest trip was an overabundance of mayo. I thought it added to the masking of the capicola, which I found unfortunate.

Sandwich Rating: Tasty. The cuts are fresh, the bread is better than most sub havens and the pepper relish elevates a simple sandwich to a real treat. Don't forget to check out their hot subs or hit them up for delivery.
