No. 53: Barbette mussels
There's no getting around it. Mussels are sexy. And nobody makes 'em sexier than Barbette. Mussels are almost always an app, meaning you've pretty much gotta share no matter what (def. sexy). And sharing mussels is a little less grab-and-go than, say, spring rolls, or mozzarella sticks. There's the tiniest bit of maneuvering involved (sexy). Plus, there's the sheer physicality of cracking them back and popping out the plump, tender jewels of meat (totally sexy). As if that weren't enough, there's the matter of all that leftover sauce to sop up later with bread (um! sexy!). Barbette's mussels come two ways: white wine, lemon, and garlic or red curry. We like both. The white wine is perhaps a bit more classy and showcases the mussel a bit more. The curried are a little sassier. Order up a couple bellinis, beers or bubblies and you're golden. Bonus: You can literally order them morning, noon, or night.
