Gastro Non Grata this Sunday

The 14th installment of Gastro Non Grata takes place at the Triple Rock this Sunday (doors at 6, $7 advance/ $10 at the door, gastronongrata.com). Triple Rock will provide the food and several of the band members of musical guests the Prairie Sons and Blood, Sweat, and Beers. As always, Northern Brewer will be there and Clancey's will provide door prizes, but the big reason to show up is an appearance by Wisconsin's Death's Door Spirits. The distillery, which makes gin and vodka, is named for the notorious passage between the Door Peninsula and Washington Island (a v. cool area, if you've never been out there) and uses grain and juniper berries grown on Washington Island. I first sampled Death's Door at a Slow Food event in San Francisco before it was available here and agree with Rachel Maddow (love her!) that the stuff is "gorgeous." I hope they bring some of their "white whiskey" (a.k.a. moonshine) I just read about in the Times!
