Uptown Cafeteria & Support Group gets ready to open

The new Parasole (Il Gatto, Chino, Manny's, Salut, etc.) concept at Lake Street and Girard, Uptown Cafeteria & Support Group--strangely named, as it's not actually a cafeteria--is getting ready to launch with a rooftop sky bar to compete with Stella's across the street. I drove past the other day and saw the hiring signs in the windows: "Your job sucks! Come work for us." or some such thing. Vintage Parasole.

Parasole ringleader Phil Roberts says the sky bar should open mid-June. Patrons will be transported to the top of the building via a glass elevator and should have a great view of the Uptown and downtown skylines. According to Roberts, we should expect a canopied bar in the center of the space, high-top tables overlooking the Lake Street side, and a cozier lounge area on the northeast corner. The food menu will be a limited version of what's available downstairs, and it sounds like it's going to be totally eclectic: breakfast all day, curry, and at least one burger, I'd guess. Expect a "roof off" of Stella's vs. Uptown Cafeteria this summer!
