~Per their Facebook page, Town Hall Brewery has signed a lease for a second location at 48th and Chicago and are working on a fall opening. Located right by Cafe Levain, Ba-Gu, The Parkway Theater, Pepito's, Town Hall will add an extra eclectic element to the already hopping area. Plus, their Seven Corner location will be releasing Marmalade Sky on tap today, which is brewed with bitter and sweet orange peel, and American Amarillo hops--a fairly new variety of American hops with citrus notes. Pints of Marmalade Sky will be $2.50 today from 5pm-6pm. Also, they tapped their one and only keg of Russian Roulette, a "Belgian Chocolate Russian Imperial Stout" yesterday, so try it while it lasts--both sound delicious.
~The Wine Thief, located at 1787 St. Clair Ave. in St. Paul, one of our favorite places to find interesting and affordable wine, will be closed on Monday, June 7th and Tuesday, June 8th, to reopen on Wednesday, June 9th with their new Ale Jail! The Ale Jail will be a beer store within the wine store, offering a wide selection of craft beers, a build-your-own six pack station, and a landscaped patio (although they are unable to serve on the patio, you can still hang out, and it will be dog friendly.) Looking very forward to checking this out--their beer selection was already rad.
~On Tuesday, June 8th, from 6pm-8pm, St. Louis Park craft beer sellers extraordinaire, The Four Firkins, will hold a Northwoods Brewing tasting event, hosted by "Brad the Beer Guy." This is the first Minnesota distribution of Northwoods Brewing, a small brewpub in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and many selections will be in the house, as follows:
Lil' Bandit Brown
Birch Wood Ale
White Tail Wheat
Half Moon Gold
Red Cedar Red Ale
and Bumbl'n Bubbas Buzz'n Brew.
~And we asked local beer distributor Kelly Kuehl, the guy who know pretty much EVERYTHING about beer, his selections for the summer sippin'. Here are his top two choices:
1. Surly's Cynic.
It is in the Saison style and is without a doubt one of THE most refreshing alternatives to typical wheat beers available. I give it two big thumbs up.
2. Victory's Prima Pils.
In my humble opinion it is without a doubt one of the best examples of European Style Pilsner brewed in the US. It is simply stunning.
And with that all I have to say is MMMMMM beer.
