Corner Table does dinner & a movie

Categories: Events

Corner Table's idea of dinner and a movie means a three-course meal followed by documentary films about conscientious eating: The restaurant is pairing up with the Cooking MN Meetup Group (local group that meets twice a month for dinner/drinks/education and chats about food and drink) for three such nights on June 29 and 30 and July 1.

Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and the films--The Cove, Our Daily Bread, (I've seen this one and highly recommend it) and Dirt, on each of the respective dates--will start at 9 and be shown outdoors. Dinner and movie tickets are $55; movie and popcorn (local kernels, natch) tickets are $10. Discussion session will follow the film. To buy tickets visit Corner Table's website.

CT offers more info about the documentaries...

June 29 The Cove: Academy Award winner for Best Documentary of 2009, The Cove follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers, and free-divers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery.

June 30
Our Daily Bread:
Welcome to the world of industrial food production and high-tech farming. To the rhythm of conveyor belts and immense machines, the film looks without commenting into the places where food is produced in Europe. ... People, animals, crops and machines play a supporting role in the logistics of this system which provides our society's standard of living.

July 1
Dirt:
The film offers a vision of a sustainable relationship between humans and dirt through profiles of the global visionaries who are determined to repair the damage we've done before it's too late. There are many ways we can preserve the living skin of the earth for future generations.
