Taste of Minnesota and Red, White, and Boom punctuate the Week in Food

- We've come a long way since Swedish sausage and boiled potatoes. Today Minnesota is abundant with foods from all over the world, thanks in part to chefs like Supenn Harrison, who turned our attention to Thai food when she opened Sawatdee in 1983. Join Harrison and Joe Hatch-Surisook, co-owner with his wife, Holly, of Sen Yai Sen Lek, on a culinary exploration of Thai cuisine with the Edesia Cookbook Review at the Galleria Barnes and Noble. 7 to 8 p.m.
- The local food movement is like the iPhone--it's here to stay, so you better get on board. Join Chef Ruhel Islam for lunch at Gandhi Mahal and a presentation on why and how to use local food in your daily diet. The talk will be followed by a tour of the Midtown Farmer's Market. - Kick-off your 4th of July weekend at Taste of Minnesota Friday through Monday. Set up shop on the banks of the Mississippi to ooh and ah over nightly fireworks displays; listen to live music, including Atmosphere, P.O.S., and Minus the Bear; and savor some food on a stick. $20. - Work up your appetite at Minneapolis's Red, White, and Boom Fourth of July celebration. Run in the Hot Dam 5K Fun Run or the TC Half Marathon, listen to live music, and watch the fireworks displays from the Stone Arch Bridge. Dine on festival food or at your favorite St. Anthony Main restaurants like Pracna on Main, Tugg's Tavern, and Vic's.
- Independence Day! The day we celebrate our right to eat burgers and cheese curds rather than fish 'n' chips and clotted cream. Enjoy all the festival food you can stomach from mini donuts and fried pickles to cotton candy and pork chops on a stick.
