Indian food: much needed in Uptown
One of Minneapolis's Top 5 most cursed restaurant locations is making a comeback: 1221 W. Lake Street, the former home of Indio, will soon become Darbar India Grill. The Strib reports that owner Diljit Singh--who already owns four India Palace restaurants in Roseville, Burnsville, Woodbury, and Plymouth--has been hoping to get into Uptown for a long time. (Uptown has been light on Indian since Marla's Indian & Caribbean Cuisine moved from 1123 W Lake St. and the closure of that Indian spot that used to sit about where Cafeteria now resides.) Darbar India Grill won't have a lunch buffet but it will have a tandoori oven roasting free-range chickens, and more. The restaurant will have a full bar and a patio and Singh hopes to have it open in a few weeks.
