Turtle Bread coming soon to Longfellow
The Pioneer Press reports that Turtle Bread founder Harvey McLain has finally locked down a site for another Turtle Bread bakery at 34th Street and 42nd Avenue (formerly Pizza Pie and I) in Longfellow. McLain expects to offer flexible, multi-use dining similar to his operations at 48th and Chicago and Linden Hills: offering pastries, omelets, soups, salads, and sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, and transitioning to a menu of burgers, pizza, and beer in the evening. (One interesting note: He's also considering putting a brewpub in the basement...)
South Minneapolis is awash in Turtle Breads...
In a small space attached to the main building, McLain says he'll offer three-course prix fixe dinners, priced similarly to those offered at Levain, in the $20-$25 range. After some significant renovations, McLain hopes to open in November. Sounds like it should be a major boon to an under-served restaurant community.
