  • Some people would kill for a glimpse at Heidi Woodman's cookbook shelf. The Edesia Cookbook Review will do you one better. Woodman and five-minute artisan bread baker Zoe Francois will join the review to share their tips and tricks and talk about what cookbooks they can't live without. Barnes & Noble Galleria. 7 p.m.

  • Do the right thing. Enjoy traditional Nepali food prepared by Curry Diva Heather Jansz and half-price bottles of wine at the Highland Grill, while helping to combat human trafficking. At $25 per plate, you will help support Play It Forward Adventures, which is working in partnership with the Peace Rehabilitation Center in Katmandu that provides jobs and income for women targeted by the region's sex trade. 5 to 9 p.m.

  • Gordon Gekko says lunch is for wimps, but we're sure the Wall Street supervillain would approve of wine and beer tastings, especially while bringing in money at a screening of his new flick, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Hit up the movie at the Mall of America theater, then head to the theater Starbar for food, drinks, and discussion. $20/$30 for two. 5:15 p.m.

  • Designate your driver and head over to Haute Dish for an epic, sick-course beer dinner. Chef Landon Schoenfeld (praised for his classic comfort food like mac and cheese and pork and beans) will collaborate with owners and brewmasters from Surly, Bells' Founders, Boulder Beer, Lagunitas, and Big Sky to produce a meal made in hops heaven. Come hungry and prepare to eat, drink, and mingle with the reps. $100. 5:30 p.m.

  • What's the best way to cure a Friday-night hangover? Beer at breakfast. The Aster Café serves up a Pre Autumn Brew Review Breakfast this morning complete with New Holland Ichabod waffles, Furthermore Fallen Apple crepes, Great Lakes Oktoberfest sausages, and Rush River braised pork burritos. 8 to 11 a.m.

Sunday 10/3

  • Support immigrant farmers and the work of the Minnesota Food Association and Slow Food Minnesota at Big River: Slow Food, held at Big River Farms in Marine on the St. Croix. Wear your muck boots to tour the farm's fields, hoop house, and specialty gardens, chat with local Kenyan and Hmong farmers, and take down hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and a multicourse dinner prepared by guest chefs Joe Hatch-Surisook of Sen Yai Sen Lek, Jeff and Kristin Klemetsrud of Savories, Mike Phillips of Green Ox, and Alex Roberts of Alma and Brasa. $100 ($40 of which is tax deductible)/$85 for members of the Minnesota Food Association or Slow Food Minnesota.
