Meritage adding oyster bar and absinthe as part of expansion
Downtown St. Paul goers now has one more reason to rejoice: The loveliest of French bistros, Meritage, is starting construction on its expansion that has been two years in the planning. Owners Russell and Desta Klein are taking over the former card shop between their current space and Great Waters. In the works is an oyster bar, bringing added charm to the historic setting of the Hamm Building on Saint Peter Street. ![]()
Oysters and absinthe are coming our way.
Here are a few other changes happening at Meritage:
The expansion will also bring extended bar hours, a new craft drink list with sparkling cocktails, and the very exciting inclusion of an Art Nouveaux absinthe fountain.
To accommodate construction, Meritage will be closed Sunday, November 14, through Friday November 26. You can see progress on the construction on Meritage's dedicated blog.
Also in Meritage news: Valet prices will be dropping to $9 (formerly $10 to $12) starting today. And get your sidewalk crepes while you still can (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the restaurant) --the anticipated seasonal closing of their beloved crepe stand is Thursday, October 14.
