Finer dining now in Burnsville.
Porter Creek Hardwood Grill opened earlier this summer and the Star Tribune's Rick Nelson reports that it's breathing new life into Burnsville's less-than-inspiring dining scene.

The former Baker's Square Outlet (!) has been remade into a suburban oasis with a rustic-chic dining room (dark wood, stone, and decorative metalwork) and a massive patio with an outdoor bar, fire pits, and elaborate landscaping. The owners also run Doolittles Woodfire Grill so they're prepared to serve the nearly 400 diners the restaurant can hold.

Chef James Foley (best known for his work at Tejas, he's more recently been working for Hemisphere Partners) serves several dishes commonly seen in more urban eateries--lamb shank, roast duck, flatbreads from the wood oven, and wood-roasted chicken--but hard to find in outlying areas. While there are certainly many straightforward crowd-pleasers--Caesar salad, hot smoked turkey sandwich, capellini with tomato sauce--Foley's also making diners stretch. Where else in Burnsville are you going to find an Israeli couscous salad on the menu?
