Now on to the wine reviews:
2009 Dr. Loosen "Dr. L" Mosel Riesling $8.99
Dr. is in the house. A great wine featuring honey, minerals, apples, and peaches. A bit sweeter than the '08 but super tasty. 90 points
2007 Chalk Hill Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc $12.50 ($25 for two, BOGO wine)
Well made, with grass, honeysuckle, lemon, and minerals. Medium finish. Will go really well with shellfish. 90 points
2009 Cloudy Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc $19.99
Offers grass, grapefruit, floral, and mild spices. Medium finish. Would be fun to compare the styles between the Chalk Hill. 89 points
2005 Trentadue Winery La Storia Meritage $23 ($45.99 for two, BOGO wine)
I have tasted this three times, and it's drinking really well right now, with oak, cherry, plum, and dried herbs. Offers a buttery finish. 90 points
2008 Craggy Range Wairarapa, Martinborough Single Vineyard Pinot Noir $25.99
Nice, lighter-style pinot noir with spice, floral, and cranberry. Medium, elegant finish and balanced. 89 points
2007 Santi Valpolicella Classico Superiore Solane Ripasso Valpolicella $10.99
Great wine with cherry, floral, dried herbs, and plums. Clean wine and medium finish. Valpolicella wines have been big hits at my tastings. 90 points
2008 Haras de Pirque Carmenere $8.99
Nice, under-$10 wine, with spice, cherry, and floral notes. Medium finish and pleasant to drink. 89 points
2007 Newton Napa Valley Claret $15.99
Another great showing on this wine from the amazing 2007 vintage from Napa Valley. This wine shows off cherry, plum, cinnamon, and spices. Enjoy with red meat. 90 points
2008 Casa Lapostolle Rapel Valley Carmenere $8.99
I love this carmenere wine, which shows cherry, spice, eucalyptus, and earth. Medium and concentrated finish. 89 points
2006 Ladera Howell Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $49.99
Dark purple, with a nose that reveals black currants, oak, vanilla, and spices. On the palate this wine features firm tannins, blackberries, cherry, oak, vanilla, and spice and an intense, medium finish. This will cellar for more than a decade. Enjoy this with aged cheddar and a rib eye steak. 94 points
The Haskell's sale goes through October 30.
