The new Hmong Village at 1001 Johnson Parkway (just south of Lake Phalen) is having its grand opening this Saturday. And just in case you've never been to the International Marketplace or any of the other local ethic markets and aren't sure what the experience might be like, the StarTribune explains: "A trip to Hmong Village isn't like going to Southdale."

The former school has been renovated to hold 40 offices and 230 merchants selling clothes, jewelry, DVDs, and more--and, from a foodie perspective, 35 produce booths and 17 restaurants.

Also, more food news at the Hmong Minnesota Professional Building at University Avenue and Marion: plans to open a 130-seat restaurant called University Buffet, serving Chinese food and sushi.
