Surly Darkness Day takes place tomorrow!
It comes but once a year, and that day is tomorrow: Surly Darkness Day, when Surly Brewery releases its popular Russian Imperial stout known as Darkness.
Enjoy a day of Darkness
Here's all you need to know to survive this one-day beertastic blowout:
Darkness day begins at noon (rain or shine) and runs until 6 p.m. The first 1200 people in line will receive wristbands to buy Darkness, and only 7,500 bottles will be sold, with a maximum of six bottles per person. Each bottle (and what a bottle it is: the freaky label was designed by Aesthetic Apparatus) costs $18, and only cash is accepted.
Yep, it's old school; as the website says, "no rainchecks, holding bottles or any nonsense." Get there, get in line, get your beer. But don't get drunk before you get your hands on Darkness -- Surly won't sell to you if you're already a hot mess.
While you're waiting in line, Surly has plenty to entertain you. In addition to a full lineup of bands -- Kentucky Beltfight, Guzzlemug, Red Pens, Zebulon Pike -- vendors like the Chef Shack, Famous Dave's and Salty Tart will be on hand selling food. Beer, merchandise and tours will also be available inside the brewery (again, cash only).
If a day of beer, bands, food and Furious aren't an option this Saturday, don't worry -- another 7,000 bottles of Darkness will be available at local liquor stores starting on the 25th.
