The best free wine tasting of the year
Everyone who drinks wine has been to, or at least noticed, an in-store wine tasting, whether it's a winemaker in town or a distributor pouring six of their value wines. Well, a big in-store tasting tomorrow (Saturday, October 2) is neither, but it's probably the best free wine tasting in the Twin Cities.
Haskell's Downtown Haskell's Downtown Minneapolis: Try before you buy
At all Haskell's locations this Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. you will experience the best in-store tasting of the year. With over 50 wines to sample and all the regions covered, it is an opportunity to try before you buy, as you will get their fall sale pricing a few days earlier than the October 6 start date.
A few highlights from last year were:
2005 Chateau Meyney St. Estephe 90 points
2006 Conquista Mendoza Malbec 90 points
2006 Grgich Hills Cellar Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay 90 points
2007 Chappellet Vineyard Napa Valley Mountain Cuvee 89 points
2005 Chateau Lagrange Les Fiefs de Lagrange St. Julien 91 points
2006 O'Shaughnessy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 93 points
My favorite pinot from the sale last spring:
2006 Orogeny Green Valley Pinot Noir
A classic California pinot noir from Sonoma, featuring floral, strawberry, earth, and a pleasant perfume sensation. Featured as a BOGO wine for just $21 a bottle. 90 points
Orogeny Winery A great BOGO wine from Haskell's
If you like Spanish wines, Haskell's will be having a free wine tasting called Vibrant Rioja at the following locations.
Bloomington noon- 2 p.m.
Chanhassen 3-5 p.m.
Minnetonka 6- 8 p.m.
Stillwater noon- 2 p.m.
Minneapolis 3- 5 p.m.
St. Paul 6- 8 p.m.
This is a great chance to try before you buy. Make sure to pace yourself--it's fine to spit into the bucket, which I will be modeling at the Bloomington location all afternoon.
