Bayport transitions from morels to bbq...
The Bayport is back--in a much different form. The upscale Bayport Cookery, known for its multi-course morel dinners, among other things, is now Bayport BBQ, offering Texas-style 'cue and live blues. The restaurant opened last Sunday and the Pioneer Press reports that the restaurant will be open for lunch only for the next several weeks as the business ramps up, and it's serving dry-rubbed brisket and house-made hot links along with pulled pork sandwiches, barbecued chicken, and spareribs. (Cash only.)

Owner Chris Johnson knows music--he formerly ran the Deep Blues Festival at the Cabooze in Minneapolis and the Washington County Fairgrounds--but he also knows food, as he was once a baker at Black Dog Bakery in Martha's Vineyard, Mass. and has also worked as a caterer, where he served some of his own smoked meats.
