Buffalo Wild Wings to open in Dinkytown
After a decade-long absence, Buffalo Wild Wings will return to its rightful home: a spot on the U of M campus.
BW3s is back at the U!
In the mid-1990s, when the franchise was still known as BW3s--the original name was Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck--the Ohio-founded business had one lone location in Minnesota, in close proximity to the biggest audience of people who like to drink beer and dare each other to eat spicy things: Dinkytown. (I'm thinking it was on 14th, across the street from Al's Breakfast, where Blarney's is, but correct me if I'm wrong--it has been *ages*...)
In the meantime, Buffalo Wild Wings has grown into a behemoth company with more than 700 locations in 44 states and moved its headquarters to Minneapolis. It will open its 19th location in Minnesota in the historic Fire Station No. 19 Building, which, interestingly, was built in 1893 and is one of only two original Minneapolis fire houses still standing. The building is on University Avenue, right at the nexus of Mariucci Arena, TCF Bank Stadium, and Williams Arena with plenty of wall-to-wall HD TVs and big screens for sports fanatics.
As with all BW3 store openings, the first 100 customers in line at 10:00 a.m. on Monday will win one order of free wings, every week, for a year. (Will college students really sleep out for this sort of thing, even if the temps are in the single digits?) Just consider yourself warned if you're thinking about taking on the "Blazin'" hot sauce.
