Chef Shack paved the way for a crop of new street food vendors
Most of the food carts have been put away for the season--even street food pioneer Chef Shack is skipping Holidazzle this year. But a few brave souls, such as Fork in the Road, have been serving through the snow, and several others are moving indoors. Smack Shack is serving in the 1029 Bar in Northeast, the Brother's Deli cart is now parked in the skyway of the Soo Line Building at Fifth and Marquette, and Turkey to Go plans to hunker down in the Northstar Center at Seventh Street and Second Avenue.

Overall, this past summer was a boon for the Twin Cities street food scene. Here are the Hot Dish's favorite new food trucks that debuted last year:

We like the bright orange truck for its consistency and commitment to vending (they're still out on the road this winter!) and homey fare, from Reuben brats to shrimp and orzo salad.

3. Smack Shack
Smack Shack makes a Minneapolis parking lot look like Sag Harbor. The lobster rolls are divine--and reasonably priced for their luxury.

2. She Royal
Abundant, affordable, and richly spiced, She Royal's Ethiopian offerings are a boon to the downtown dining scene. Try the vegetarian platter or the chicken with rice.

Saffron chef Sameh Wadi kills it with his global menu of Vietnamese curried chicken banh mi, Mexican-style corn on the cob, and salted caramel ice cream sandwich. How will we ever make it till spring?
