Chilango Cantina coming soon to Lowertown

More new restaurants are crowding into Lowertown St. Paul.

Rebecca Illingworth launched Bin Wine Bar in Lowertown St. Paul about this time last year, and she's already looking to open a second restaurant, Chilango Cantina, around the corner on East Seventh Street. touched base with Illingworth told the Pioneer Press that she grew up eating street food in Mexico City (Chilango is a nickname for people from Mexico City) and wants to style the new place after a Mexican cantina, with low prices, late-night meals, and foil-wrapped tacos for takeout at walk-up windows.

Illingworth says she plans to open in March, offering lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch of the usual burritos and margaritas. The new spot will be within tequila-shooting distance of Barrio St. Paul, and the Hot Dish will certainly be interested in comparing the two.
