Lunch at Lucia's honors the gastronomic French meal

The home of the gastronomic meal.
UNESCO, in all its wisdom, added the gastronomic meal of the French to its list of intangible world heritage back in November, along with Croatian gingerbread, a Peruvian scissor dance, and the hopping procession of Echternach from Luxembourg. In all, 46 new elements were added to the list, but only one will be feted with a lunch at Lucia's on February 1.

Sponsored by the French American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) in Minneapolis, the event promises a full gastronomic lunch with Jeremy Iggers, Fern Weiss of the Wedge Co-op, and Lucia Watson in attendance to add to the discussion about this Gallic cultural tradition.

Here's what Lucia's will be serving, and how you can get a seat at the table.

The menu will respect the definition of the lauded meal, which requires at least four courses, including a starter, a beef or fish dish, a vegetable, cheese, and a dessert. The Minneapolis version will have crudite with Brittany sea salt, soup, a choice of beef bourguignon or poached fish, salad, cheese, and a warm apple tart, with a selection of wines. The event is open to the public, but Sebastien Tavenas from FACC told the Hot Dish that he expects the lunch to sell out by the end of the week.

Perhaps you feel that, as UNESCO's convention reads, "The gastronomic meal gives rhythm to the lives of community members. It draws circles of family and friends closer together and more generally, strengthens social ties." Or maybe you are in it for le boeuf, la poisson ou la tarte. Whether you're a gourmet or gourmande, you'll likely be in for a great meal and a lesson in French foodie culture.
