Henry Chan continues to expand his east metro sushi empire.
On the heels of the Kitchen's closure, the Pioneer Press reports that restaurateur Harry Chan is planning to open another Shanghai Bistro in its place. The site is in Stillwater's Grand Garage building and is known for its spacious patio, so expect an Asian fusion of tiki drinks and Chinese lanterns.

Chan, who owns Shanghai Bistros in Woodbury (formerly called Giapponese Sushi, and winner of last year's Best Sushi award), Eau Claire, and Hudson, Wisconsin, says he hopes to have the space open by the second week in March. He's also planning on opening another ambitious restaurant project in Lowertown St. Paul this year.

Had lunch there Tuesday, July 19.  Food was great, but our server was very disappointing.  She was unfriendly, unhelpful, almost rude.  When we asked about food on the menu, we were told the cooks don't tell us what's in the food.  She was impatient when we were deciding what to order.  The place wasn't busy, so she certainly hadn't been overworked.  Very unhappy with the service, but as I said, the food was very good.  Just not sure I'd be interested in going back.

LOVE THIS PLACE! My husband and I go weekly for date night. The patio is perfect, the sushi is so delicious and so far we have had great service!  Oh and the prices are really nice too...

Had a blast at this beautiful resturant. The wait was a little long for a Wednesday night but extremely worth that wait and the outstanding service and friendly and helpful staff. I have been to the Woodbury and Stillwater locations and left both locations full and my pockets were not that much lighter. For $30 for two hungry people you can be totally satified. Will definitely be coming back to both locations for more deleciousness...;)

My husband and I visited Shangai Bistro for the first time last night. We waited 10 minutes for drinks to arrive, then ordered our food. My cashew chicken was so salty I could barely eat it.My husband's sushi was discolored around the edges and completely dry. We then waited, waited, waited for our waitress to bring the check so we could get out of there. (In the meantime, most of the staff was standing around talking.) We both have a stomache today. Never again!
