Succulence on a plate

Yes, this appetizer costs more than most entrees at other restaurants. And yes, it is worth every penny. Some restaurants slap together a little crab meat, 12 eggs and a ground-up box of Ritz crackers, and call it a crab cake. Not The Oceanaire.

No sir. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Creamy Mustard Mayonnaise ($16.95) is made with 95% blue lump crab, lightly breaded with house-made bread crumbs made from their day old sourdough bread, and seemingly held together with only magic and seduction.

It arrives looking like a healthy dollop of freshly whipped cream, with soft, sloping peaks, and sensual, dipping valleys. It's lightly browned, exuding a come-hither haughtiness on it's cheekily sparse white plate. It comes with a lemon wedge, whose juices give it just a touch of brightness, and a side of creamy mustard mayo, which gives it the perfect dab of tang and richness.

going...going...gone

This is luxury, people. It's as if your own personal team of attendants slavishly picked the best crab meat out of its shell, assembled it into a heavenly orb, seasoned it with sex and moonlight, fried it in love, and presented it to you piping hot. Now tell me that's not worth $16.95.
