It's time to blow out that flip-flop and get wasted away again in Margaritaville. Today is National Margarita Day, and to help you celebrate, here's a delicious but definitely  nontraditional recipe we tried out for the big day.

Blackberry Thyme Margarita

8 large blackberries
2 small sprigs of thyme
3 Tbsp. tequila
1/8 cup simple syrup (2 parts water to 1 part sugar)
1 1/2 tbsp. fresh lime juice
1/2 tbsp. Cointreau or other orange liqueur
1/8 cup chilled sparkling wine
ice

Place 7 blackberries and 1 thyme sprig in a tall mixing glass (save one berry and sprig for garnish). Muddle until completely mashed. Add tequila, syrup, lime juice, orange liqueur, and several cubes of ice. Stir to blend well, strain into second mixing glass. Add sparkling wine. Fill glass with ice, pour in mixture, garnish.

Makes one serving

And here's one to go.
