Dancing Ganesha's Chicken 65: 100 Favorite Dishes, No. 42

Colorful and tasty too
Good smells waft down Harmon Place, and when you open the doors to Dancing Ganesha and grab a seat at the bar, it only gets better. Pass by the elephant and settle in to watch the dual TVs--one showing a Bollywood musical and the other reprising a cricket match with the West Indies. The only thing that could make this any better is a little dish called Chicken 65, which goes perfectly with the Maharaja or Kingfisher brew you are already ordering.

The red color of the Chicken 65 reminds you that it's got some heat to
it, which goes well with the beer. The crispy boneless chunks of poultry
are battered in yogurt, lemon, egg, and chilies and come to you with red
onion and lemon wedges. Squeeze that juice over them (and even ask for a
side of yogurt) to enjoy the full flavor of this comforting snack.

The
bar, the hue of the meat, and the lazy bonelessness of the Chicken 65
lull you into a sense of quasi-Indian happiness, and you find yourself
talking to the law students from across the street, who have filed in
next to you. Of course, they are eating the 65 as well. The dish runs you $5
at happy hour and $8.99 at other times. And once in a while, a certain
couple comes in and orders four or five plates of it (true story),
lining them up on the bar like prized trophies, proving the comforting
yet exotic allure of the Chicken 65.
