Peninsula's chili tofu: 100 Favorite Dishes, No. 46
Encountering tofu on a menu may leave some shuddering with the thought of beige, tasteless hunks of rubbery soybean curd, choked down primarily by smug vegetarians and overzealous health nuts. Meat and potatoes may seem the more satisfying way to go. Then along comes Eat Street's Peninsula with its addictive chili tofu, knocking down any preconceptions one may have about this vegetarian protein as both a delicious and proper main course.

The Malaysian restaurant makes its tofu by hand, then stir fries it with fresh chilies and chopped red onion before tossing it all in a spicy sriracha sauce. The result? A lip-tingling pile of crispy golden pillows filled with creamy, custard-like goodness. These savory nuggets are both filling and satisfying, and it's all too easy to keep popping them into your mouth until they're gone. Meat and potatoes? Forget about 'em.
