American Craft Council Show displays crafty cakes
The American Craft Council Show presents more than 240 craftspeople from all over the U.S. and Canada displaying their handmade jewelery, clothing, furniture, and more at St. Paul's RiverCentre on April 15-17.
American Craft Council Artist Mike Barnes created this leaf mask...
Adding to the festivities in honor the Craft Council's 70th birthday, the event's organizers have paired local cake designers with artists to design cakes based on their art. For example, check out this cool leaf sculpture designed by artist Mike Barnes...and the cake that it inspired Marie Porter of Celebration Generation to create:

American Craft Council ...which inspired Marie Porter's cake.
Pretty sweet, huh?
The list of participating bakers includes local cupcake mavens Cocoa & Fig and Sweets Bakeshop, plus wedding go-tos Jessica's Cakes and Queen of Cakes, among several others. The bakers each chose their inspiration from images of about 20 of the show's crafts.
Unfortunately, the cakes are intended for presentation not eating--in fact, some are inedible dummies. The Craft Council says it's up to the bakers to decide whether or not their cakes will be eaten--maybe if you linger around during the closing hours on Sunday?--but that some of the bakeries may be bringing samples.
