Sunny Side Up Cafe knows the way to Santa Fe... French toast, anyway
After a night out in Uptown, it's important to have your recovery plan in place before hitting the sack for the night so you know where to stumble to when the sun rouses you. There's no shortage of breakfast joints in the area, but only one serving the crispity crunchity, cinnamon-y yumminess of Sunny Side Up Cafe's Santa Fe Railroad French toast.

They start with Texas-sliced bread, dip it in sweet egg batter -- not unlike other French toast recipes -- and then they finish it off by rolling it in cinnamon corn flake crumbs and topping it with freshly ground cinnamon before grilling it.

For thirteen years, chef Dave Zimmerman and his staff have been serving only perfectly prepared slices of their signature recipe. "We usually end up making one extra slice per order in case they're not perfect," Zimmerman says. But that extra slice won't delay your breakfast -- to stay ahead of the flood of orders, they prep multiple trays. How many trays? Ten trays on weekends, with each tray holding at least three layers of around 12 slices each. That's a lot of Santa Fe Railroad French toast.

They haven't raised their prices in eight years, so you can score two slices for the bargain basement price of $6.25, or shell out an extra buck at $7.25 for three slices.
