This week in food is awash in lagers, IPAs, and stouts thanks to Minnesota Craft Beer Week and the Stillwater Brewer's Bazaar. If you're a beer lover, this is the perfect week to call in sick to work.

Yay! It's Minnesota Craft Beer week! Get out your special passport and head to one of 23 participating bars, which will be hosting craft beer events all week long. Get a stamp in your passport for events like sampling one of the Muddy Pig's 16 different flights (created just for craft beer week) or demolishing one of Town Hall's $10 "giant" beers (keep the glass). Stamps qualify you for prizes, and how often are you rewarded for drinking?

Local chef Jenny Breen, author of Cooking Up the Good Life: Creative Recipes for the Family Table, will share delicious recipes from her book at this demo and tasting. Check out recipes like potato gratin with gorgonzola, roasted red pepper, and leek sauce, spring greens soup with caramelized ramps, and more. It's officially Spargelfest at the Black Forest Inn, a celebration of all things asparagus (a.k.a. "spargel" in German), and these folks are serious about offering up as much of the green stalks as you can ingest. The special menu for spargelfest includes asparagus strudel, candied asparagus, and even vodka-infused asparagus (spargeltini, anyone?). Tonight the festival kicks into high gear with music by the Matterhorn Trio at 6:30 and Mark Stillman on accordion and Dale Mendenhall on clarinet at 7:30. Hustle over to sample the food the Germans call "the joy of spring."

You started the week with Minnesota Craft Beer week, so why not end it with the fifth annual Stillwater Brewer's Bazaar? Your $30 ticket gets you a pilsner glass for sampling the 60-plus beers (which you can buffer with brats), and how cool is this: It's taking place aboard the Avalon Riverboat.
