The original Nankin restaurant.
After 80 years in business, Minneapolis's storied Nankin Cafe, longtime a center for Minnesota's Chinese community, closed in its City Center location in 1999. Its legacy has lived on in bits and pieces, with some of its furnishings finding a new home in Thom Pham's Wondrous Azian Kitchen and its chow mein recipe being resurrected at Cafeteria.

But now, Brian Tam, a great nephew of the restaurant's founder, Walter C. James, wants to pay tribute to that history when he opens his first restaurant, Asia Bistro in Woodbury, this summer.

The Pioneer Press reports that Tam plans to bring back a few of the Nankin's Chinese-American favorites, plus offer sushi created by the former sushi chef at Seven. He's shooting for opening the restaurant by July 1.

OMG not another crappy place to eat funded by the few people in the metro area that own restaurants!
